CoP spike?
Hi, I've wikid/googled/gurud and I'm still a bit confused. I've heard something about a Contemplation of Purity Spike (in relation to mesmers) and I was wondering if someone could explain it to me?
On that note, I know it's not a very well liked build so rest assured I have no plans to use it in PVP. Just curious

You sure it's Contemplation of Purity and not Cry of Pain???

I always knew that baby was too innocent to be trusted...
And besides, Cry of Pain is a PvE-only skill, so you couldn't do it in PvP anyway.

Ah yes, it is indeed a very evil spike. Here is how it works:
Several mesmers use Assassin's Promise + Cry of Pain to roll through PvE, but upon some success they start contemplating about purity of their build and role of PvE skills in GW...

I was wondering if there was some crazy trick I didn't know about that made Contemplation of Purity suddenly turn into crazy awesome damage.
And now, I realize why there were six Me/A and only two Me/Mo's in that group.
Once more:
/facepalm
Thanks Kitsune

Either that's some amazing sarcasm or someone didn't read the whole thread...

You can use cry of pain to do big AoE damage to monsters. But the question is, who takes multiple mesmers to spike...in PvE?

Gimmick...I've heard of people doing it, but never seen it. Never actually seen 8 mesmers in one place in PvE anyway.

I've never been crazy enough to try to even FIND 8 mesmers in pve (do that many even exist?), but cry of pain works flawlessly as any other class. Most of the time when doing dungeons with friends at least 3 or 4 of us are using cry of pain on our /me characters. Its probably the fastest killing build in the game.

Not currently, but they should.
See my thread on rebalancing the mesmer for this purpose.
CoP spike is just another way of saying the Mesmer must rely on crutches to operate for the objectives in PvE, like PvE skills.

I see it all the time on these forums. They've done pretty much everywhere that would normally be hard to do. The builds they use are varied, but not in spike form.

When I say spike, all I mean is 8 mesmers using CoP at the same time. I doubt 8 mesmers could run some sort of spike team build. If that's what you mean, then I wholeheartedly agree.

No, your primary or secondary must be one of the coresponding professions to use the skills of that profession. Just like any other skill in the game.

Another option to compliment Cry of Pain is using the Necromancer Sunspear Skill Necrosis, which also causes respectable damage after hexing a foe, although it's just to your target foe. But it is spammable with only a 2 second recharge, and 5 energy cost. Consider using Parasitic Bond as a cover hex to set up Cry of Pain and Necrosis.

Add Discord and you have AK-47 lol Cry of Pain's conditional damage is triggered only with Mesmer hex.
